Exploration Green

Exploration Green is a 200-acre public greenspace located in the heart of Clear Lake, dedicated to conservation, recreation and flood control. Finished portions of the five-phase project are open to the public, and the last portions of construction are due for completion by 2023. Featuring 40 acres of lakes surrounded by six miles of wide paved trails, the site has become a haven for birding and nature watching. An additional 40 acres of wetland plants helps attract wildlife and cleanses the water headed toward Galveston Bay. Over 1,000 wildlife species have been observed including over 100 different species of birds. Clear Lake City Water Authority (CLCWA) purchased the property for stormwater detention, but they used public input and involvement to expand the vision to become a premier conservation area in a suburban surrounding. Protected from future development by a conservation easement held by Galveston Bay Foundation, the land will forever offer great opportunity for community and visitor enjoyment.
